Trial For Violent Bashing

A MAN accused of bashing a hotel worker with a baseball bat, smashing several of the victim's teeth and fracturing his skull, has been committed for trial.
The victim, an employee of the Exchange Hotel at Hamilton, offered to escort two women home after they were allegedly abused and spat on by a patron last December, a police statement said.A car owned by one of the women, which was parked in Beaumont Street, had its number plate ripped off and its windows smashed.The hotel employee escorted the women to a house in University Drive, New Lambton.Chris Anthony Wells, 37, of Jamboree Close, Fennell Bay, is accused of driving to the home armed with a baseball bat and bashing the man, who suffered multiple injuries including a fractured jaw and skull.Wells did not enter pleas in Newcastle Local Court yesterday to maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm and maliciously damaging property. He was committed for trial at Newcastle District Court next Thursday.
