Jail For Arms Possession

A WESTERN Sydney man who was violently disarmed of a semi-automatic pistol inside a Singleton hotel in 2006, was sentenced this week to prison for possessing a prohibited firearm without a licence.
Jason Edwin Courtney, 33, was drinking at the Caledonian Hotel on May 19, 2006, when two hotel patrons, who believed he had a weapon, struggled with him and removed the gun. The Sydney District Court was told an analysis of the pistol by ballistics police found the weapon was in working order, although in poor condition.Courtney wasarrested on January 19, 2007.Judge Mark Marien sentenced him to 21/2 years in jail with a non-parole period of one year and three months. He will be eligible for parol on December 12, 2008.
