POPULAR Brisbane nightspot the Normanby Hotel has had its liquor licence partially revoked after losing an appeal at the Commercial and Consumer Tribunal.

The venue at Red Hill, on the city fringe, will be banned from trading between 3am and 5am, effective immediately.

A ban on glass and live entertainment in the car park will also force the Normanby to abandon or revamp its popular Sunday Sessions event.

Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser said the State Government's Liquor Licensing Commission had received a "litany" of complaints against the Normanby, which has a reputation for alcohol-fuelled violence.

"I don't revel in taking action against venues but licensees need to meet their obligations," Mr Fraser said.

Allegations also included the sale of alcohol to intoxicated customers and noise and other disturbances in the community.

The new conditions came into force at midnight.

The Normanby's manager, Mark Lassman, could not be reached for comment, but said in a previous statement that the pub was unfairly targeted.

The hotel was also ordered to pay fines totalling $22,000.
